Structure Of the Lancaster Fire Department
Companies
The
Lancaster Fire Department is comprised of four companies:
Each firefighter in the Lancaster Fire Department is a member of one of
the above companies.
Company
Firematic Line Officers
Each
company is comprised of a Captain, a First Lieutenant, and a Second
Lieutenant. Company Line Officers serve a one year term and are elected
by their respective companies.
Fire Chief and
Assistant Fire Chiefs
Each
company has one Fire Chief that serves in a rotation of successive
rank. Each serves a term of two years in each position, beginning as
Third Assistant Fire Chief. At the end of the two year term, each Fire
Chief moves up one spot.

Assistant Chief > Fire Chief
The Fire Chiefs are elected by all four companies. Although the
position rotates on a two year cycle, the Fire Chiefs are elected
annually.
