Firematic Structure Of the Lancaster Fire Department
Companies
The Lancaster Fire Department is comprised of four companies:
* Citizens Hose Company, Organized 1889 - Engine Company
* Eagle Hose Company, Organized 1885 - Engine Company
* Protective Hose Company, Organized 1896 - Engine Company
* Rescue Hook and Ladder Company #1
, Organized 1874 - Ladder Company
Each firefighter in the Lancaster Fire Department is a member of one of the above companies.
Company Firematic Line Officers
Each company is comprised of a Captain, a First Lieutenant, and a Second
Lieutenant. Company Line Officers serve a one year term and are elected by their respective companies.
Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chiefs
Each company has one Fire Chief that serves in a rotation of successive
rank. Each serves a term of two years in each position, beginning as Third Assistant Fire Chief. At the end of the two year term, each Fire Chief moves up one spot.
START> Third Assistant Chief > Second Assistant Chief > First Assistant Chief > Fire Chief
The Fire Chiefs are elected by all four companies. Although the position rotates on a
two year cycle, the Fire Chiefs are elected annually.

Department Firematic Line Officers
Department Line Officers of the Lancaster Fire Department are appointed positions designated by the Fire Chief.
Each year the Fire Chief appoints the following:
* EMS Captain
* Rescue Captain
* Fire Police Captain
* Incident Safety Officers
Specialty Groups
In addition to our firefighters, we have the following opportunities available:
