November 2007

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 14 incidents during the month of November. Responses included:

·          6 Fire Responses

·          2 Mutual Aid requests

·          1 Motor vehicle collision

·          1 EMS response

·          1 Natural gas leak in a residence

·          3 Carbon Monoxide investigations

 

The Lancaster Fire Department also relocated its web site to www.lancasterfd.org

 

 

October 2007

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 17 incidents during the month of October.  Responses included:

·          8 Fire Responses

·          2 Mutual Aid requests

·          3 Motor vehicle collisions

·          2 EMS responses

·          1 Natural gas leak in a residence

·          1 Police Assist

 

 

September 2007

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 21 incidents during the month of August. Responses included:

·          7 Fire Responses

·          7 Mutual Aid requests

·          4 Motor vehicle collisions

·          1 Non-fire incident

 

 

August 2007

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 21 incidents during the month of August. Responses included:

·    Eleven Fire Responses

·    One Request for Emergency Medical Service

·    One Hazardous Condition

·    Three Carbon Monoxide Investigations

·    Five Mutual Aid Requests

 

 

July 2007

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 18 incidents during the month of July. Responses included:

·    Two Structure Fires

·    Eleven Fire Responses

·    One police assist

·    Four Mutual Aid Requests

 

During July, Lancaster Firefighters responded to a garage fire on Sherborne Avenue. Damage was contained to the garage, with no damage to adjacent property. No injuries were reported.  Firefighters also responded to a fire in the building at RMF Business Forms on Pearl Street. This fire was contained to one section of the building. Depew and Bowmansville Fire Departments, as well as the Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corps assisted at the scene.

 

 

June 2007

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 16 incidents during June.  Responses included:

·    One Structure Fire

·    Eight Fire Responses

·    Two motor vehicle accidents

·    One rescue call

·    Four Mutual Aid requests

 

During June, Lancaster Firefighters also responded to a fully involved garage fire on Kurtz Avenue.  The blaze caused exposure damage to five separate structures due to the intense heat.  One firefighter was treated at the scene by LVAC for an ankle injury.

 

 

May 2007

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 13 incidents during May.  Responses included:

·    Two Structure Fires

·    Five Fire Responses

·    One Carbon Monoxide Investigation

·    Two Emergency Medical Calls (EMS)

·    Three Mutual Aid requests

 

During May, Lancaster Firefighters responded to the report of a garage fire on Como Park Boulevard.  On arrival, Fire Chief R.M. Herget found the second floor of the garage involved in heavy fire.  Crews battled intense smoke and fire conditions, despite challenges presented by a partial roof collapse, Third Assistant Chief Scott M. Kuhlmey said.

 

Lancaster firefighters were assisted at the scene by Depew and Twin District Fire departments and the Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  One firefighter was treated at Erie County Medical Center for a minor injury and released. 

 

On the morning of May 29, the department responded to a fire at Hardee Brothers Dry Cleaners on Como Park Boulevard.  Later in the same day, Lancaster firefighters were dispatched to a shed fire on Villa Place.  On arrival, Assistant Chief James N. Robinson found a storage shed fully engulfed in fire, causing exposure damage to a neighboring garage and nearby property.  Members of the Lancaster Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze, Kuhlmey said.

 

Lancaster firefighters participated in seven drills, logging approximately 280 man-hours of training for the month. 

 

 

April 2007

 

During April, the Lancaster Fire Department held its annual election of officers. 

 

Firematic Officers include Fire Chief Robert M. Herget, First Assistant Chief John J. Burke, Second Assistant Chief James N. Robinson, and Third Assistant Chief Scott M. Kuhlmey. 

 

Administrative Officers for the Department include President Gregg Smith, Vice President Timothy Schaefer, Department and Executive Board Secretary Jennie Hauser, Department Treasurer Norman Piotrowski, Records Officer Carl Adolf, Sergeant at Arms William Huff, and Chaplain Albert Rinow.

 

The department responded to 11 incidents during April, including four fire responses, one utility call, one carbon monoxide investigation and three vehicle accidents.

 

The Department also provided mutual aid assistance to Depew and Town Line Fire Departments.

 

Village firefighters participated in 10 drills, logging approximately 376 man-hours of training for the month. 

 

Firefighter Joe Mandell successfully completed the 78-hour Firefighter I training program.  

 

 

March 2007

 

A number of Village of Lancaster firefighters successfully completed training courses during the month of March.  Lt. Jeff Moore completed Fire Officer I, and Samuel Miller completed fire radio operations. 

 

Firefighters Matthew DuBois, James Fourby, Lottie Jovic, Matthew Reitmeier, and Nicholas Wetzler successfully finished training in hazardous materials operations.

 

Chief Robert M. Herget, Assistant Chiefs John Burke and Scott M. Kuhlmey, Capt. Rob Nichter, Lts. Kevin Herzog and Jennie Hauser, and Firefighter Bill Huff participated in a two-day program held at the National Fire Academy.  They concentrated on leadership, executive skills in influencing, structural collapse, and training operations.

 

During March, Village firefighters also engaged in training to satisfy annual regulatory requirements.  The Lancaster Fire Department logged about 500 hours of training for the month. 

 

Lancaster firefighters responded to 19 incidents during the month of March.  Responses included:

   Three fire alarm activations

   One utility call

   One rubbish fire

   One extinguished kitchen fire

   Three carbon monoxide detector activations

   One motor vehicle collision

   Two good intent calls

 

The Department also provided mutual aid assistance to neighboring fire companies.
